Cleveland Cavaliers star Kevin Love remains sidelined since undergoing an arthroscopic surgery to remove “loose bodies” in his left knee. However, the latest report revealed that Love is near to return in action and could possibly play in the Cavaliers’ upcoming four-game road trip.
Kevin Love is currently playing his best season since joining the Cavaliers. In 46 games this season, he averaged 20 points and 11.1 rebounds on 42.9 percent from the field and 38.4 percent from beyond the arc. Unfortunately, he already missed 13 games after undergoing a surgery last month. Cavs general manager David Griffin said that they’re not forcing Love to return immediately since they’ll need him badly in the upcoming postseason.
“Everything that happens for him is just a step in the process,” Griffin said. “Every next step you take in a rehab situation when you come back from surgery allows for the possibility of swelling and setback, it’s just how it goes. That’s why the timeline was what it was. If he doesn’t practice until the end of the week, that’s fine. That’s not something we would consider a setback, it’s just what we anticipate. If he gets through it, he has no soreness, we’ll let him keep taking the next step all the way through and we’ll see what that means. I would anticipate that he’ll play sometime on the road trip.”
Love’s absence is undeniably a big loss for the reigning NBA champions. Since he was sidelined, the Cavaliers are 7-6. According to ESPN, the Cavaliers don’t defend well when LeBron James was off the court and Kevin Love was out. However, when Love is healthy, their defensive issues don’t exist.
Kevin Love hints nearing return with an Instagram post
On his Instagram account, Kevin Love posted a picture of his jersey hanging in his locker at The Q. Most people expected Love to play against the Detroit Pistons since jerseys only hang for players who are suiting up that night. Unfortunately, Love didn’t show up and coach Tyronn Lue revealed that he might have only posted it for fun.
“He did that to mess with y’all,” Lue said. “He came into my office and said you’re going to get a lot of questions today. I said why? He said because he posted something about his jersey in his locker, but, he’s not playing tonight.”
Love may not even play against the Utah Jazz on Thursday. However, he’s expected to return on the Cavaliers’ four-game road trip which starts on Saturday in Los Angeles.
