DeMarcus Cousins is considered as one of the most dominant centers in the league. He is a proven talented big man who can bully opponents in the paint and knock down three-pointers. Despite his impressive statistics, NBA Hall of Famer and TNT analyst Shaquille O’Neal believes that the Sacramento Kings should move now because of his poor leadership and uncontrollable attitude.
“In the previous years, he’s been hot-headed, he hasn’t shown great leadership qualities yet,” O’Neal said. “He hasn’t shown those leadership qualities, and that’s why I’m hearing talk that if things don’t start to become correct, they may be looking to go in a different direction.”
DeMarcus Cousins has been frequently involved in various trade rumors in the past months. According to Yahoo Sports, the Kings were secretly shopping “Boogie” but were unable to get a trade partner. The Kings were reportedly asking for too much in exchange for their talented big man.
“They’ll never get what they want in return,” an East Conference general manager told Amico Hoops. “They think Cousins is worth more than he actually is. He hurts you every bit as much as he helps you. He’s like a cheeseburger, or booze. Too much and you’ll pay a price.”
Since Cousins joined the Kings in 2010, they were still unable to end their playoff drought. As of now, there is a growing optimism in Sacramento that coach Dave Joerger could help the team perform well this season. If they suffer another disappointment, it will not be a surprise if they trade their franchise player and start rebuilding the team.
DeMarcus Cousins is set to become an unrestricted free agent in 2018. Some league executives believe that the upcoming February deadline would be the best chance for the Kings to deal “Boogie”. Once they let the deadline pass, Cousins’ trade value will decrease as the 2018 NBA free agency approaches.
