NBA News: Doc Rivers wants Paul Pierce to retire as a Celtics

It will be a sad news to hear in the NBA that Paul Pierce is retiring. This is especially true for every Boston Celtics fans out there.

Pierce has been a key player in the Celtics’ last championship run in 2008 NBA Finals.

However, there is a report from Zach Harper and James Herbert of CBSSports that suggests that Pierce might be returning for the next season. While there are plans for Paul to play for another season, he is still weighing his options and that his decision will come in the next few weeks. This is according to Brad Turner of the LA Times.

Moreover, Doc Rivers laid out a plan for Pierce to retire as a member of the Boston Celtics. He said this plan during an interview podcast with The Vertical’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Pierce is currently under contract with the Los Angeles Clippers until the 2018 season. Doc’s idea is for Paul to sign a one-year deal with the Boston Celtics. This plan will only happen if the Clippers releases Pierce before his contract expires in which the team intends to do for the player.

The Clippers team seems to be a team that only wants what is good for their players. In this case, they want Pierce to retire as a member of the Celtics since he had good years there.

Pierce is among the five players from the 1990’s that are still under contract for the next season. The other four are Vince Carter, Kevin Garnett, Manu Ginobili and Dirk Nowitzki. The players from this era that recently announced their retirement are Kobe Bryant and Tim Duncan.

It will be up to Pierce if he will come back for his 19th season in the NBA. This is a news to watch out for in the coming weeks.
