The Miami Heat is still a mess and Pat Riley does not know what the future holds for their franchise. But rumors are swirling that the Heat will engage in a trade that would send Goran Dragic to the Minnesota Timberwolves.
According to NBA Trade Rumors, the Heat would cut ties with Dragic to get Ricky Rubio and Adreian Payne in return. Aside from that, the Heat would get a 2017 second-round pick from the Timberwolves.
It is no secret that the Heat is hurt with the departure of Dwyane Wade and Luol Deng. Adding to their woes is the uncertainty of Chris Bosh playing in the coming season. The Heat has practically rebuilt with around Hassan Whiteside and it seems the team’s front office is not too sold out with Dragic calling the shots on the floor.
With the team’s current situation, the Heat looks on to getting a veteran player who could very well feed Whiteside down the post. If the rumored trade should take place, the Heat would have a steady point guard in Rubio, though they have to work double time on his perimeter offense. But having Rubio will bring back memories of him playing side-by-side Kevin Love only Whiteside is younger and agile.
As for Adriean Payne, he could be an addition to the Heat’s untested young players and journeymen who would come off the bench. Plus there is also the assurance as they would take also a second round pick in next year’s draft.
Going to the Timberwolves, Dragic is likely to make an impact as he will play under Tom Thibodeau. Aside from that, he would set up a rapport with Zach LaVine, Karl-Anthony Towns, and Andrew Wiggins.
Wolves still looking to add another big man & another guard too. Might be waiting until RFA offer sheets signed elsewhere are sorted out

The preseason has already started and teams like the Heat still have time to make a trade move. Though comparing Rubio to Dragic would be unforgiving, but at least the Heat gets a leader who is willing to spread out the floor with his teammate and not take the ball on isolation plays. Many may see the rumored trade as unbelievable, but still worthy of exploration.
