The Boston Celtics beat the Brooklyn Nets, 122-117 to spoil Jeremy Lin’s debut with the Brooklyn Nets. The Celtics were led by point guard Isaiah Thomas’ 25 points, 9 assists and 2 steals.
But it was more of a team effort for Boston, which had eight players score eight points or more, and five ending up in double digit scoring.
The new version of “Linsanity” had 18 points, but Brooklyn just couldn’t stop Boston’s balanced attack.
Jae Crowder had 21 points and free agency acquisition Al Horford contributed 11 points, 6 rebounds and 4 shot blocks. The center showed in his debut for Boston that his value on both ends would be useful for the Celtics this season.
Jeremy Lin had a little help with his new team. Bojan Bogdanovic led his team with 21 points on 9-of-17 shooting, but star center Brook Lopez looked lost in Brooklyn’s new system. Lopez finished with just 7 points and missed 6-of-7 shots in 21 minutes on the floor.
For the Celtics, Avery Bradley added 17 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists while Tyler Zeller had 11 points off the bench.
The Nets were in the game early trailing by just two points after the first quarter, 33-31 and by six points at halftime, 64-58. But the Celtics outscored Brooklyn 33-23 in the third quarter and they ran away with the easy blowout win.
Boston tries for back-to-back wins to start the season when they face the Chicago Bulls on Friday. Jeremy Lin and the Nets face the Indiana Pacers on Saturday.
