Kevin Durant going to the Golden State Warriors last summer was the top storyline in free agency. It has been revealed recently, that the move would not have happened if not for the recruitment of former NBA MVP Steve Nash, who was one of the people who convinced the superstar forward to move from OKC to the Bay Area.
“As I was making the decision to come here. I asked Nash for some advice,” Durant admitted in a recent interview to confirm the earlier reports that the former pro was a vital piece in his free agency decision.
Nash-Durant talk during free agency was a factor in KD’s decision
Nash currently serves as a “special adviser” for the Warriors franchise. He was recently seen working out with Durant in a one-on-one training video.
“I asked him about Steph, and Klay and Draymond and the type of people they are day to day. Obviously I didn’t know much about that, how they approached their jobs, how they approach working,” Durant added.

Durant admitted that while Nash did not make the decision for him, Nash’s words made him “feel good about” joining the Warriors, who already featured lots of All-Stars.
Nash also confirmed the talk with Durant, which happened near the free agency decision, saying that KD was ready to make a major move “for himself”.
“The other side of it–he’s at a stage of his life he wanted to challenge himself as a man and put himself in an environment where he felt there was room for a different kind of growth in a way, maybe an uncomfortable different step,” Nash said of Durant’s thinking process for his decision last summer.
There were worries that Durant joining Golden State would destroy the Warriors’ much touted chemistry. That has not happened so far with the team still enjoying the best record in the league (31-5) so far this season.
