Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook were teammates from 2008 to 2016 as they guided the Oklahoma City Thunder to six playoff appearance including the 2012 NBA Finals. However, one former OKC player says that Durant and Westbrook never got along during their run and they have no personal relationship now.
Durant left Oklahoma City and Westbrook to join the Golden State Warriors this summer. He recently told reporters that his new team is very unselfish and loves the family atmosphere. Though an innocent comment from KD, it is a slight to the Thunder and Westbrook.
“It’s real, and since Durant left the relationship has gotten worse. They got along before because they sort of had to. There is no relationship now, and what is there is all bad,” one former OKC teammate of Durant and Westbrook told Amico Hoops.
The former Thunder player, who remained anonymous, added that the two superstars never really cared for each other. He also noted that Russell Westbrook is very determined this season to prove Kevin Durant wrong to leave OKC.
The 27-year-old point guard recently responded to the comments of Kevin Durant about the unselfishness of the Warriors and he is not amused. He told reporters in Oklahoma City that Durant talking about the family atmosphere is “cute.”
“That’s cute, man. That’s cute. My job is to worry about what’s going on here. We’re going to worry about all the selfish guys we’ve got over here. Honestly, I’m really tired of talking about it. So anytime anybody asks me another question about it, I’m just not going to answer,” Westbrook said, via KOCO 5 News.
Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook have never confirmed the status of their relationship over the years but it is clear that they do not like each other now. It would be interesting to see how they interact this season when the Thunder faces the Warriors for the first time in the upcoming season on November 3, 2016.
