Two-time NBA champion Lamar Odom is doing better these days after being in a coma in 2015 and going to rehab last year. He is now reportedly interested in joining Luke Walton’s coaching staff and help the young Los Angeles Lakers.
Lamar Odom wants to coach
In an interview with TMZ Sports, Odom revealed that he has been talking with the Lakers but not because he wants a comeback. He noted that he is interested in becoming part of the Lakers coaching staff headed by former teammate, Luke Walton.
The 37-year-old played for the Lakers from 2004 to 2011 wherein he won two NBA championships. He also won the NBA Sixth Man of the Year Award in his final year in Los Angeles. He last played in 2014 with the New York Knicks.
Luke Walton open to signing Lamar Odom as assistant coach
Walton has done a wonderful job turning the young Lakers team to a well-oiled machine. Despite their recent slide, the Lakers are set to improve their record and it is only a matter of time before they get back to the playoffs.
Apparently, Walton heard Odom’s comments and he told The Orange County Register that his former teammate would be a great addition. However, he revealed that he has to talk with the Lakers management about adding a coaching position.
“Lamar would be great. Anyone who knows Lamar, when he’s right, he is one of the most likable people they’ve been around. He has a great knowledge of the game and has a great way of communicating with people,” Walton said.

Odom and wife, Khloe, are technically still married but separated. However, the ex-basketball star is worried about his wife’s weight loss, per Hollywood Life. The report noted that Odom barely recognizes his wife because of all the weight she lost.
