The Los Angeles Lakers are heading into the 2016-17 season full of hope with a new coach and a better roster. According to the latest Lakers rumors, players such as Metta World Peace and Larry Sanders could complete Los Angeles’ roster.
The Lakers currently have 13 roster spots and they only have to sign two more players, per ESPN. Tarik Black has not signed but he’s already agreed to a new two-year deal at the start of July which means there is only one spot left.
According to Eric Yee of Lake Show Life, there are three possible players that the Lakers could end up signing to fill the final roster spot. He mentioned undrafted rookie Zach Auguste, former Lakers player Metta World Peace and ex-NBA player Larry Sanders.
Auguste only averaged 5.2 points and 4.0 rebounds per game in the Summer League but he showed great energy and hustle. On the other hand, World Peace can always come back to the Lakers and help players such as Luol Deng and Timofey Mozgov teach the team’s young guns.
Finally, Larry Sanders has hinted a possible comeback this season and he could provide depth at the center position occupied by Mozgov and rookie Ivica Zubac. It should be noted that Nick Young might be waived this offseason and it has been part of many Lakers rumors in the past couple of months.
The current Lakers roster has 13 players including D’Angelo Russell, Jordan Clarkson, Luol Deng, Julius Randle, Timofey Mozgov, Jose Calderon, Lou Williams, Brandon Ingram, Ivica Zubac, Marcelo Huertas, Nick Young, Anthony Brown and Larry Nance Jr.
Tarik Black will be the 14th player while one of the three players mentioned above could possibly make the final roster. Some Lakers rumors have also suggested trading for star players this offseason including Russell Westbrook, DeMarcus Cousins, and Rudy Gay.
