The Los Angeles Lakers continue their rebuilding and are now being linked to shooter Kent Bazemore according to the latest Lakers rumors. Early in the 2016 offseason, the Hollywood squad signed center Timofey Mozgov and re-signed point guard Jordan Clarkson.
The Los Angeles Lakers are being criticized for giving a lucrative contract to Mozgov, who was a back-up center with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Mozgov got a big pay day from the Lakers, which gave him a $64 million contract for over four years. Meanwhile, Clarkson’s deal is worth $50 million, also for four years.
Bazemore played well for the Atlanta Hawks last season with averages of 11.6 points, 5.1 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.3 steals. He earned just $4 million the last two years but is looking for a big payday this summer. It’s not clear if the Lakers are willing to overpay for him like they did with Mozgov.
Bazemore is an athletic shooting guard who can play defense and hit the three-point shot. If added to the team, Lakers rumors state that he will most likely be the starting SG with the retirement of Kobe Bryant.
Bazemore has also been linked to another Western Conference team, the Houston Rockets. According to reports Friday, he already met with the Rockets and James Harden but both sides couldn’t agree to a deal.
Lakers rumors early in offseason had the team linked to the top free agents like Kevin Durant, Al Horford and Nicolas Batum. However, it looks like Los Angeles has to settle with role players in free agency.
