DJ Khaled has revealed that he wants to welcome back Cleveland Cavaliers forward LeBron James back to Miami Heat. The 40-year-old also expressed his desire of being a minority owner of his favorite NBA franchise. The Snapchat maestro is a lifelong fan and wants to take the next step forward with his hometown team.
“I’ve got nothing but love for LeBron James. If he came back to Miami, smartest decision he ever made in his career. But, where he’s at, it’s a blessing for him, too.” DJ Khaled said to TMZ Sports.
The man born in New Orleans, Louisiana mentioned how he would love to speak to the Miami Heat and look into the possibility of having even one percent of ownership in the franchise. While speaking of his love for the city, DJ Khaled was sporting a Heat jersey and emphasized on the fact that he “bleeds” Miami.
LeBron James left the Miami Heat after 2013-14 after featuring four seasons for the side. He joined the club in 2010-11 and led the team to two consecutive NBA Championships in 2012-13 and 2013-14 seasons. James even led the Cavaliers to the NBA finals in 2014-15 season but lost out to the Golden State Warriors 4-2.
Miami Heat has made the NBA playoffs for the 2015-16 season and recently defeated the Charlotte Hornets 123-91 in Game 1 of the first round. They are due to host the sixth-seeded Hornets at the American Airlines Arena on April 20 for the second game in the seven-game series.
DJ Khaled won’t be the first of rappers to hold an interest in owning a team in the NBA. Jay Z had a small percentage ownership of the Brooklyn Nets. Back in 2011, Will and Jada Smith also had a minority stake in the Philadelphia 76ers.
It has to be noted that the Miami Heat are worth $1.3 billion. Even a one percent stake in the club would mean that DJ Khaled has to fork out around $1.3 million, which is roughly his net worth.
