The Dallas Mavericks earned their third straight victory after defeating the Chicago Bulls, 99-98, for the second time this season on Tuesday night at United Center.

With 22.8 seconds remaining in the game, Jimmy Butler hit a two-pointer, resulting for the Bulls to grab a 98-96 lead. Deron Williams orchestrated the final play for the Mavericks and found an open Wesley Matthews in the three-point range. Matthews knocked down a wide open three-pointer, giving them a one-point lead.

The Bulls still had a lot of time to win the game but failed to hit a bucket. Dwyane Wade missed the supposed game-winning shot. The Mavericks won the game with just a one-point lead, 99-98. It was the second time the two teams faced each other this season and the Mavericks won both games.

Harrison Barnes led the Mavericks with 20 points while Dirk Nowitzki posted a double-double, 10 points and 10 rebounds. Seth Curry added 18 points while Deron Williams had 11 points, nine assists, and six rebounds. The Bulls headed into the game from a back-to-back weekend victory.

BULLS MISSED TAJ GIBSON, NIKOLA MIROTIC STILL NOT IN SHAPE

Jimmy Butler led the Bulls with 24 points, 12 rebounds, and nine assists. Three other Bulls’ starters scored double digits except for Paul Zipser who only scored five points. Coch Fred Hoiberg started Zipser in place of Taj Gibson, who sit with left ankle injury.

Meanwhile, Nikola Mirotic, who missed four games due to illness, only scored six points in 22 minutes off the bench. Hoiberg noticed Mirotic still lacks conditioning, forcing him to make Zipser his starting power forward.

“We’ll have to keep a close eye on him,” Hoiberg said of Mirotic. “Conditioning is going to the biggest thing after being out of the lineup for a week. He got a couple workouts when we were on the road. The biggest thing is building the strength back up. I think he lost eight pounds with the virus he had. Now it’s about getting him back in game shape and getting his timing back.”

The Bulls will face the Atlanta Hawks on Friday at Philips Arena. The Mavericks will visit the Miami Heat also on Friday at AmericanAirlines Arena.
