Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr remains questionable to return since taking an indefinite leave of absence earlier in the NBA Playoffs 2017. However, there is a growing optimism about his return as interim head coach Mike Brown revealed that Kerr talked about coaching the Warriors in Game 1 of the NBA Finals 2017 against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

“He’s talked about possibly coaching Game 1 … and I even tried to tell him, ‘Steve, you should do it … and if you don’t feel like you’re OK, halfway through the game, just go back in the back,'” Brown said.

The Warriors remain unbeatable in the NBA Playoffs 2017 despite losing coach Steve Kerr in the first round. Kerr decided to take an indefinite leave of absence to find remedies for the migraines and nausea he has experienced stemming from back surgery almost two years ago. As of now, he’s still experiencing some level of discomfort and said that his status is still “up in the air.”

Mike Brown ready to step down if Steve Kerr returns

However, Steve Kerr isn’t closing his doors from coaching the Warriors in the NBA Finals. Kerr knows how important their third matchup against the Cleveland Cavaliers is. His players are seriously eyeing a revenge against the team who embarrassed them in the NBA Finals 2016.

So far, Mike Brown is doing good as the interim head coach. Despite not being on the Warriors’ bench, Kerr revealed that he’s giving advice to Brown behind the scene. Brown also expressed his willingness to step down once Kerr is ready to coach again.

“We have a veteran team. I don’t think it will jolt our guys at all. I know it wouldn’t jolt me,” Brown said. “You know, I understand that that’s my job. But Steve is so conscientious about the players — and you know the storyline and all these other things — that he wants to make sure that he feels good enough to come back and do it on a full-time basis and not rock the boat with anyone or not cause a distraction from our team. And I respect that. I’m OK with it however it happens.”

Steve Kerr’s status will be announced before Game 1

The Warriors’ fans are surely waiting for the return of Steve Kerr on their bench. However, Kerr doesn’t want to be a nuisance on his team and will only coach the Warriors once he’s 100 percent healthy. Interim coach Mike Brown revealed that Kerr’s status will be announced before the 9 p.m. ET tipoff.
