NBA Draft Rumors: Ben Simmons described as the combination of Russell Westbrook and LeBron James

LSU Tigers Ben Simmons, who is expected to land the first overall pick in the 2016 NBA draft, is described as the combination of Russell Westbrook and LeBron James because of his speed and towering height.

In the different mock drafts made by different sports websites, Ben Simmons and Brandon Ingram are consistently landing in the first and second spot respectively. The Philadelphia 76ers are the lucky team to pick Simmons at number one. The 76ers have struggled in their past seasons and are desperately in need of additional star power in their team.

The Philadelphia 76ers should not think twice before picking Simmons as the first overall pick in the upcoming NBA draft. Not only can he dominate under the basket, but he has also proven to be a threat on the perimeter.

“He’s a better shooter than people know,” LSU Director of Basketball Operations Charlie Leonard told Bleacher Report’s Michael Pina. “People perceive it as being a big flaw in his game, but it’s not. It’s just not something that he’s had to focus on.”

LSU associate coach Brendan Suhr has praised Simmons’ speed and passing skills and compared him to Russell Westbrook and LeBron James. Once the Sixers  are successful in developing him, Simmons will surely be a monster in the 2016-17 NBA season.

“Ben is the fastest player on the floor almost any night he’s playing,” LSU associate coach Brendan Suhr told Pina. “He has Russell Westbrook-type speed at 6’10″. There’s no one his size in basketball—maybe the closest is LeBron [James]—that can move as fast with the ball as he can. His passing is Magic-like, and I think that’s what people like about him.”

If the Philadelphia 76ers pass on Simmons, the Los Angeles Lakers will surely pick him considering their interest in him from the start.
