NBA Finals controversy: LeBron James, Cavs wanted Draymond Green to be suspended for Game 6 too

By on

LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers already got help from the NBA when the league decided to upgrade Draymond Green’s foul to a Flagrant 1 that caused his suspension in Game 5 of the NBA Finals.

New reports state that the James and the Cavs also wanted Green to be suspended for Game 6, which is set to be played on Thursday.

LeBron and the Cavs beat the Warriors without Green in Game 5, 112-97 in Golden State. The win extended the best-of-seven series, which is now at 3-2 still in favor of the Warriors. Golden State won the first two games and split among Cleveland for Games 3 and 4. Golden State has two more chances to finish off LeBron in Game 6 and 7, back at the Oracle Arena.

Meanwhile, Green told reporters that the Warriors would have had won over the Cavaliers and clinched the NBA title if he played in Game 5 of the NBA Finals.

Green was suspended by the league after his shot at the groin of LeBron James was reviewed and was upgraded to a Flagrant 1. Because of his past flagrant fouls accumulated, he earned an automatic suspension in Game 5. A Flagrant 2 ruling by the league would have banned him for Game 6 as well.

Green has played well in this series and one of the better defenders against LeBron James. Without the star forward in Game 5, LeBron James exploded for 41 points, the same score Kyrie Irving had.

In Game 6 of the NBA Finals, Draymond Green will be back. LeBron James and the Cavaliers would have preferred to not to have him again as they have a better shot at beating the Warriors without their most versatile player.
