NBA News: Lebron James and Kevin Durant included; Magic Johnson names free agent that the Lakers should pursue

NBA legend Magic Johnson expressed his opinion regarding which players should the Los Angeles Lakers should pursue in the free agency market in the upcoming offseason.

Johnson gave his opinion on his Twitter account wherein he said that the Lakers should go after Kevin Durant. Durant is undeniably the top target of every team in the free agency. With his outstanding scoring performance and leadership quality, there is no doubt why Durant is the  main recommendation of an NBA legend like Magic Johnson for his former team.

However, in order to sign Durant, the Lakers should consider making huge adjustments regarding their line up since Durant prefers a team that could compete in any powerhouse team in the league. The Lakers should show Durant that they are capable of being a title contender team next season.

According to a report from Lakers Nation, Johnson also mentioned DeMar DeRozan of the Toronto Raptors as a player the team should pursue in free agency. DeRozan will become an unrestricted free agent and he might want to consider playing for his hometown in Los Angeles.

DeMar DeRozan could be the missing piece in the Lakers starters especially after they lose Kobe Bryant who retired recently. The Lakers are in need of a shooting guard who have high accuracy in the three-point area. With a career average of 18.1 points, 2.6 assists and 3.9 rebounds, the Lakers will undoubtedly have a bright future if they sign DeRozan in free agency.

According to Magic Johnson, the Lakers should also try to give a shot in getting the services of Cavaliers star LeBron James. James will have the choice to opt out of his contract and play for another team next season. However, chances of James leaving the Cavaliers will be depending on the team’s performance in the NBA Playoffs.

If the Lakers failed to get their preferred free agents, there is still a lot of potential players in the free agency market like James Harden, Hassan Whiteside, Al Horford and Nicolas Batum, among others. The Lakers should also consider Harrison Barnes and Festus Ezeli who have deep connection with their new head coach Luke Walton.
