The Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers are favored to meet in the NBA Finals, for the third straight year, because of their line-up and experience. However, there are other NBA teams that are title contenders and will have a shot of pulling off the upset over either teams and stop the trilogy between Stephen Curry and LeBron James’ squads in the 2016-2017 NBA Season.
The new NBA season is one week away and here’s an early look at the rightful title contenders outside of the Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference.
Boston Celtics – The Cs acquired center Al Horford in free agency to improve their frontcourt depth. They now have a reliable scorer down low and he can also stretch he floor with his mid-range shooting.
This acquisition will be crucial when the NBA Playoffs rolls and when they meet the Cavaliers in the conference semis or conference finals. Horford will match-up well with the Cavs’ Tristan Thompson and Kevin Love and will be an offensive option when the likes of Isaiah Thomas and Jae Crowder fails to contribute on offense.
There are still NBA rumors that the Celtics want to trade some of their young guys and future draft picks to add another star. If Boston gets one, they’d have a better shot of pulling off the upset against LeBron.
Toronto Raptors – They are bringing the same team from last season except for minor changes. They lost Bismack Biyombo but gained Jared Sullinger, formerly a starter for Boston so they have the same depth from last season.
Experience of losing to the Cavs will be important to the team as they are now more familiar in how to play a LeBron team. The improvement and consistency of DeMar DeRozan and Kyle Lowry will be crucial in their goal in beating the Cavaliers in the playoffs.
Will other teams step up aside from the Raptors or Celtics in trying to upset LeBron James and the Cavaliers this season?
