The man with one of the most impressive resumes as a basketball coach is still looking for a new job. David Blatt had interview sessions with the New York Knicks, Sacramento Kings and Los Angeles Lakers, but he wasn’t offered a job.
In a recent interview, Blatt revealed that he wants to coach somewhere in the coming season. The only American-Israeli coach of the league is also considering the overseas offers. The Spanish giants Barcelona has shown keen interest on Blatt. Earlier, the former point guard had coaching stints in Israel, Russia, Greece and Turkey.
The Warriors are looking for an assistant coach on the staff of Steve Kerr, as Luke Walton has been hired by the Lakers for next season. They might consider David Blatt for the post. But is Blatt willing to join any NBA team as an assistant coach? The former Cavs’ coach revealed that his top priority is a head coach’s post in the NBA. But it’s unlikely now that any team of the league will hire Blatt as their head coach. Mike D’Antoni is set to become the head coach of the Houston Rockets. The 57-year-old was close to joining Steve Kerr’s staff in 2014 before he took charge as the Cavs’ boss. Blatt could become an important strategist in the Warriors’ coaching team next season by virtue of his vast experience.
The Cavs fired the 57-year-old on January 22 for poor team chemistry, only seven months after he led them to the NBA finals.
“If you’re a coach, you’re going to get hit in the head once in a while”, Blatt said last weekend in Toronto.
