The Boston Celtics are seen as a team just one move away from being an elite title contender in the NBA and their star point guard, Isaiah Thomas is saying that he will be active in free agency in recruiting the top free agents to add to the NBA rumors that the Cs are chasing top free agent Kevin Durant this summer.
Thomas also could not wait of his Durant recruitment to Boston and tweeted a “Durant’s No. 35 and a Celtics’ clover” after the Golden State Warriors defeated the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 7 of the Western Conference Finals. The Boston point guard immediately deleted the tweet however maybe because the Celtics could be penalized for tampering as Durant is not yet officially a free agent.
“I’m going to be really active [in free agency recruitment].” Thomas promised earlier in the month right around the NBA Draft lottery, via ESPN. “[Celtics president of basketball operations] Danny [Ainge] wants me to be active. Whatever he needs me to do, I’m there. All he says is, ‘When I call, answer.’ I’m going to be ready.”
In the same interview, Thomas added that he believes that the Celtics are “a step away” and “couple of pieces” from being contenders not only in the East but as title contender.
The Celtics are just one of the many teams being linked by NBA rumors to Kevin Durant, who is considered one of the best players in the league. Durant is an unrestricted free agent, which means he is free to sign with any other NBA team and the Thunder will lose him for nothing in free agency. However, the Thunder have the chance to offer Durant the bigger contract compared to other NBA squads.
Aside from re-signing with the Thunder, Thomas and the Celtics will also try to outbid the likes of the Los Angeles Lakers, Golden State Warriors, San Antonio Spurs and Washington Wizards, among other teams who have been linked to Kevin Durant in past NBA rumors.
