The Boston Celtics and the Philadelphia 76ers are reportedly having trade talks involving center Nerlens Noel and guard Avery Bradley. Both teams are currently upgrading their rosters to be more competitive in the 2016-17 NBA season.
The trade rumors between the Boston Celtics and the Philadelphia 76ers were not new since the two teams were reportedly engaging deals even before the 2016 NBA draft. The Sixers currently have a very loaded frontcourt and need to add depth in their backcourt.
Sixers general manager Bryan Colangelo was reportedly not comfortable having too many centers in their team. Even before Joel Embiid and Dario Saric officially joined the team, there were reports saying that Nerlens Noel and Jahlil Okafor were not compatible frontcourt partners.
However, it seems like the Sixers are not entertained with the offers of interested teams.
“We’re not going to make a bad deal just to make a deal. I think we can be a better basketball team if we can distribute that talent better. Maybe take one of those assets and address other needs on the roster. I think right now it’s best to say we like all of them, we want to see if we can make the most out of each of them. At the end of the day, the reality says one has to go at some point but only when the deal is right.” Colangelo said.
The Philadelphia 76ers are currently in need of a shooter to surround and maximize the effectiveness of Ben Simmons as a point forward. The Celtics could give Avery Bradley, an athletic point guard who can knock down shots from beyond the arc.
The Celtics could engage a straight swap with the Sixers which works on ESPN’s trade machine. However, adding some players from both teams are still considerable to make the deal more interesting.
Nerlens Noel can be a good frontcourt tandem with Al Horford since they can play both center and power forward. On the other hand, Avery Bradley can give a big boost in the Sixers backcourt and at the same time, it is the best way to decongest their crowded backcourt.
If the Celtics will not push for the trade, the Toronto Raptors also expressed their interest to trade for Nerlens Noel. Bruce Arthur of Toronto Star revealed that the Raptors are willing to trade Terrence Ross for Nerlens Noel.
