According to the latest NBA rumors, the Boston Celtics are working very hard in trying to find a trade partner for their No. 3 pick in the 2016 NBA Draft.
A. Sherrod Blakely of CSNNE.com claims that the third overall pick in the upcoming rookie draft later this month is available for other teams and that the main targets are Chicago Bulls star Jimmy Butler and Oklahoma City Thunder star Kevin Durant.
“[I’m] hearing that No. 3 pick overall is the one that they are really shopping. Trying to be as aggressive as possible in trying to move that pick, because they want to get a difference-making, impact player right now. And they believe using that No. 3 pick, and maybe some other players and/or picks, might be the best way to [make] that happen.” Blakely said to add more to the NBA rumors that the Celtics does not want a young guy in their roster but an established star.
“The guys that they want are the guys that everybody wants. We’re talking about [Kevin] Durant, we’re talking about Jimmy Butler, those type of players. And those guys are going to be at the top of their wish list until those guys say, ‘We don’t want to come to Boston.’”
Blakely added that if the Celtics sticks with the No. 3 pick, they will select Jaylen Brown from that spot. Ben Simmons and Brandon Ingram are expected to be the first two picks, to the Philadelphia 76ers and Los Angeles Lakers but the third spot remains unknown with lots of prospects like Dragan Bender, Jamal Murray, Kris Dunn and Brown as the next best players in the rookie class.
Butler is under contract with the Bulls for the next few years while Durant is an unrestricted free agent but both have been part of NBA rumors at this point of the offseason. The Celtics can sign Durant outright or they can agree to a sign-and-trade with the Thunder, who may want to get something in return if KD leaves this summer.
