Rumors and speculations are now swirling around the San Antonio Spurs who are reportedly interested in acquiring Brandon Knight from the Phoenix Suns. Are the Spurs looking for Tony Parker’s replacement?

The San Antonio Spurs will be entering the 2016-17 NBA season without Tim Duncan on their team. The ‘Big Fundamental’ decided to end his 19-year NBA career, leaving a huge hole in the Spurs’ roster. Also, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili are predicted to be playing their last season in San Antonio.

The upcoming season is expected to be more intense as the Golden State Warriors made a major improvement on their roster with the addition of Kevin Durant. Even without Duncan, the Spurs are still one of the NBA teams who can give the Warriors a tough battle in the Western Conference.

Seeing the ‘Big Three’ leaving San Antonio one by one makes it questionable for the Spurs to survive in the succeeding years. However, the presence of LaMarcus Aldridge and Kawhi Leonard ease the pain of the nearing departure of their aging superstar.

As of now, what the Spurs need to worry the most is looking for the perfect replacement for Tony Parker as their starting point guard. Though they currently have Patty Mills as a backup, he has still lots of things to prove to be considered for the starting role.

There are rumors that the San Antonio Spurs are one of the teams who are interested with Brandon Knight of the Phoenix Suns. Knight and Erik Bledsoe were reportedly on the trading block in the past months. According to Zach Lowe of ESPN, Suns head coach Earl Watson prefers Erik Bledsoe as their starting point guard and said that there is no indication that Bledsoe will be traded.

“Still, the Suns did not flip a coveted Lakers pick for Knight, and then pay him $14 million per season, to be a backup. The league is cool on Knight now, but given the dearth of wings, the Suns might find a palatable trade market if Knight starts strong,” Lowe said.

Last season, Brandon Knight averaged 19.6 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 5.1 assists per game, proving that he is ready for a starting role. However, there is no way that he will start with Bledsoe healthy.

In a suggested trade scenario, the San Antonio Spurs could trade Patty Mills and Danny Green to acquire Brandon Knight from the Phoenix Suns. This works on the ESPN trade machine. Under coach Gregg Popovich, Knight’s skills as a point guard will be further developed to make him more deserving for a starting role.

LaMarcus Aldridge, Kawhi Leonard, and Brandon Knight will undeniably reciprocate the success of the Spurs’ ‘Big Three’. However, these are just rumors that may or may not happen before the trade deadline. Should the Spurs and the Suns proceed with the trade, it will surely be for the benefit of both teams.
