The Boston Celtics are both interested in Dwight Howard and Al Horford in free agency. However, the latest NBA rumors suggest that Celtics All-Star point guard Isaiah Thomas prefers playing with Horford than Howard.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical, Horford will meet with the Celtics and Houston Rockets but he prefers re-signing a five-year, $152 million deal with the Atlanta Hawks. On the other hand, Howard’s only two choices are the Celtics and Hawks.
In an interview with The Boston Herald, Isaiah Thomas revealed that he has talked with Al Horford and he is very interested in joining the Celtics. He added head coach Brad Stevens has a lot of fans in the NBA and many players are intrigued to play under him.
“You have to be sensitive bringing those things up. But with Al, I have reached out to him and told him I’m interested in playing with him and I know the organization likes him,” Thomas said.
On the other hand, there was no mention of Dwight Howard in the interview. It is believed that the eight-time All-Star center is the backup plan for the Celtics if Horford decides to stay in Atlanta. However, many Boston fans were unhappy about the news.

Dwight Howard has a meeting w/ Celtics? Is that so he can come to Boston, get overpaid, underwhelm fans and opt out after 2 years?

Securing a face-to-face meeting with Durant was a nice sign of progress. A meeting with Dwight Howard is the polar opposite of that…

As mentioned in a previous report, Howard’s reputation has taken a hit after three good but disappointing seasons in Houston. He is projected to only get a contract with a starting salary of $10-15 but he reportedly wants $24 million or more.
