The Chicago Bulls remain in play for Philadelphia 76ers big man Jahlil Okafor according to rumors about two months before the new NBA season begins.
Last month, the Jimmy Butler to Philadelphia trade rumors were much talked about but the Bulls appear to be going into different direction and want to “win now.”
Acquiring Dwyane Wade and Rajon Rondo in free agency, Chicago will aim to make the NBA Playoffs and go deep in the postseason with their veteran roster.
The move means that the Bulls may be willing to let go of the younger guys in the team if it means improving the team immediately, especially in their frontcourt.
Acquiring Jahlil Okafor from Philadelphia would likely cost the Bulls multiple players. The Sixers want wingmen or guards and Chicago has depth on the wings.
If the Bulls really want to contend next season and challenge LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers, they should consider giving up Doug McDermott and Denzel Valentine in a trade for Okafor.
It’s likely that Philadelphia even asks for both and the Bulls would be fine giving up both and demand one of the wing players like Nik Stauskas from the Sixers.
From ESPN’s Trade Checker, a Jahlil Okafor plus Nik Staukas for Doug McDermott, Denzel Valentine and Bobby Portis Chicago-Philadelphia trade works. This could also work for both the Bulls and Sixers.
For Philadelphia, they get the “balanced roster” they want as claimed by multiple rumors this 2016 offseason. Both McDermott and Valentine are threats from outside and they can complement the likes of Ben Simmons, Joel Embiid and Dario Saric.
For Chicago, they get bigger in the frontcourt with an Okafor and Robin Lopez pair. Along with Butler, Wade and Rondo they’ll be tough to contend with in the Eastern Conference.
