Damian Lillard and C.J. McCollum know the Portland Trail Blazers need more star power in order to become a legitimate title contender next season. Both superstars openly stated the players the Trail Blazers should target in the upcoming offseason. Will Paul George and Kristaps Porzingis join Portland this summer?
The Trail Blazers suffered an early exit in the Western Conference playoffs after being swept by the Golden State Warriors. The explosive backcourt of Damian Lillard and C.J. McCollum is obviously not enough to take down the West champs. With their eyes focused on the upcoming season, Lillard and McCollum already have targets in mind.
NBA Rumors: C.J. McCollum wants Paul George
On Twitter, McCollum answered a question of a fan asking “Who would you like to see the Blazers go after this offseason?” The 25-year-old guard replied with the link to Paul George’s official Twitter account. In an interview with Taylor Rooks (via Slam Online), McCollum said George would look good wearing the “red and black” next season.
“He would look good in red and black,” McCollum said. “Obviously, he gives you that star power, you’re in the Western Conference. Obviously, there’s a lot of very good teams, a lot of teams that are deep. A lot of teams that have three, four horsemen. Some teams have five. And you have to be able to match them blow for blow and be able to understand it takes a lot more than one good player, two good players, three good players. You need to have a collective unit. Obviously, Paul George would help any team in the NBA.”
George is yet to decide whether he will sign a massive contract extension with the Indiana Pacers this summer or not. If he will not sign an extension, the Pacers are expected to make him available on the trade market. The Trail Blazers currently have a plethora of trade assets to acquire George. With McCollum’s statement, it will not be a surprise if George will top the list of Portland’s trade targets.
NBA Rumors: Damian Lillard wants Kristaps Porzingis
Meanwhile, Damian Lillard also answered a fan’s question about Kristaps Porzingis. Lillard said that he will welcome Porzingis to Portland “if he ever gets tired of New York.” The Latvian center has been a vulnerable trade target after he skipped the exit meeting with the New York Knicks.
Multiple NBA teams have reportedly inquired about his availability via trade. If the Trail Blazers succeed to acquire him, Porzingis will undeniably boost their frontcourt playing alongside Jusuf Nurkic. In 66 games he played this season, he averaged 18.1 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 2.0 blocks on 45 percent shooting from the field and 35.7 percent from beyond the arc.
