With the Philadelphia 76ers placing both Jahlil Okafor and Nerlens Noel on the trading block, one of the teams in NBA rumors supposedly interested are the Los Angeles Lakers. A D’Angelo Russell and Julius Randle trade for the Sixers big men could be a deal both teams look into before or during the season.

The Hollywood squad is in rebuilding mode but have many guards that may interest the Sixers, a team that is looking to have a “balanced roster” before the 2016-2017 NBA Season begins.

With head coach Luke Walton taking over for the L.A. squad, it’s likely that they want to try out a D’Angelo Russell and Jordan Clarkson starting backcourt first. Walton knows how to maximize “small ball” with the Golden State Warriors when he was the interim head coach and will try a small backcourt of Clarkson and Russell in the new NBA season.

The Sixers are reportedly willing to trade one of Noel or Okafor. The Boston Celtics and Minnesota Timberwolves have been linked to Philadelphia this offseason in various NBA rumors.

However, the Sixers could offer a deal that could be hard to pass up for the Lakers. If Philadelphia offers both Jahlil Okafor and Nerlens Noel in exchange for D’Angelo Russell and Julius Randle, Los Angeles management may think twice about Russell being their starting point guard of the future since they already have Jordan Clarkson.

This blockbuster trade works under the Trade Checker. If both sides are serious in getting a more balanced line-up before next season, it’s a trade they have to explore to improve their weak positions.

Clarkson showed capability in running the team for the Lakers last season and continues to mature as a point guard. Getting two big men, Noel and Okafor, in return, both of whom will immediately start for the team, could be a better investment for their rebuilding.

Are the Lakers better off with Russell as their starting point guard? Or could they trust Clarkson to get the starting PG job if they can get players like Noel and Okafor that can improve their frontcourt rotation?
