Two of the most talked about names in the trade talks this offseason are DeMarcus Cousins of the Sacramento Kings and Kevin Love of the Cleveland Cavaliers. However, the latest NBA rumors suggest that both players are not available at the moment and they will be with their respective teams at the start of the season.
According to Steve Kyler of Basketball Insiders, the Kings and Cousins have already agreed that they will start fresh next season with new head coach Dave Joerger at the helm. He added that the relationship between general manager Vlade Divac and “Boogie” is getting better.
NBA rumors in Sacramento also imply that the franchise wants DeMarcus Cousins to stay and they still believe in him. It is noted that the Kings front office have dismissed any inquiries and calls regarding their All-Star center.
However, there is still the possibility of trading Cousins especially if the team starts badly this upcoming season. The 26-year-old Gold Medalist still has two years on his deal, per Spotrac, but it will be a key factor if the Kings ever decide to trade him.
On the other hand, Kyler also reports that Kevin Love and the Cleveland Cavaliers are not looking to go separate ways. Love was really productive last season and he only regressed during the NBA Finals. He also was key in their Game 7 win wherein he played great defense on Stephen Curry in the final moments of the game.
The Cavaliers also knows that they will not be getting any player better than Love if they ever tried trading him. Even though his defense is a liability, he is a prototypical stretch four in the modern NBA game and he also gets a ton of rebounds.
There were several NBA rumors during the summer league stating that the Cavaliers inquired about DeMarcus Cousins with Kevin Love as trade bait. It has been confirmed that it was only an inquiry and the Kings would like to test Cousins one last time.
