Derrick Rose Chicago Bulls return is expected to part of the discussion in the upcoming offseason as the former MVP enters free agency for the first time. After the Bulls dumped him last summer, will Rose still consider playing for his hometown team?
Derrick Rose will be testing the free agency market for the first time since being drafted the No. 1 overall pick in the 2008 NBA Draft. His first-year stint in New York didn’t go well after the Knicks suffer another disappointing season. Though Rose expressed his desire to re-sign with the Knicks, he is not closing his door for other interested teams this summer.
“I’m going into it with an open mind and will listen to everyone,” Rose said. “Last season sucked losing. But it was a great experience. I loved the guys that I played with and I loved the coaching staff. And who wouldn’t like playing in New York? It was great.”
The Knicks’ decision to use the triangle offense may also affect Rose’s decision in free agency. Knicks president Phil Jackson will reportedly find their new point guard either via free agency, draft, or trade market. With the current situation in New York, there is a higher possibility that Rose will be playing for a new team next season.
Derrick Rose Chicago Bulls return remains a possibility this summer
In Game 4 of the Eastern Conference playoffs matchup between the Chicago Bulls and the Boston Celtics, Derrick Rose was caught in the front-row baseline seat watching with his son. As expected, the Bulls fans still gave their former star a warm welcome together with “MVP!” chants. Rose made it clear that he only went to the United Center just to watch a playoff game.
“If I was by myself, it might be a little bit weird. But I’m with him,” Rose said, pointing to P.J. “He makes it a lot easier. I look at it all that happened in the past. The memories will always be there. My heart is still here when I visit. I just love basketball, so I had to watch.”
It wasn’t the first time Rose was seen watching the playoffs live. He also attended the game between the San Antonio Spurs and the Memphis Grizzlies on Saturday night at FedExForum. Some people believe that Rose is already scouting his next team. Recalling in past month, Rose revealed his plan to join a playoff team. Despite trading him last offseason, there is a higher possibility that he still considers the Bulls as a free agency destination this summer.
Rajon Rondo may prevent Derrick Rose Chicago Bulls return
Derrick Rose Chicago Bulls return will be an interesting scenario in the upcoming offseason. However, with the rise of Rajon Rondo, it remains questionable if the Bulls still need the former MVP on their team. Rondo has been a major factor for the Bulls in their first-round matchup against the Celtics.
Unfortunately, he suffered a right thumb fracture that will keep him out for at least “couple of weeks”. Rondo has been frequently mentioned in various trade rumors during the 2016-17 regular season. However, after showing a massive improvement on his game, it will not be a surprise if the Bulls decide to bring him back next season.
