Dwight Howard returning to his first NBA team where he made the NBA Finals? It could happen according to the latest NBA rumors, which also has linked the Houston Rockets center to three other teams, the Milwaukee Bucks, Portland Trail Blazers and Charlotte Hornets as possible destinations in Howard’s upcoming free agency in the summer of 2016.
Dwight Howard has a player option in his current contract with the Rockets and he can choose to stay for another year with the Texas team. However, NBA rumors state that his relationship with the Rockets, especially star shooting guard James Harden has not improved this year and this could lead to the big man looking for another team in the offseason.
With the Rockets struggling in the regular season and also in the first round series against the defending champion Golden State Warriors in the 2016 NBA Playoffs, the 30-year-old Howard exploring free agency is almost seen as a done deal as he searches for the final huge contract in his career.
A return to the Magic is one of the options for Dwight Howard, according to ESPN and even one of the favorite landing spots for the big man along with the Bucks, Blazers and Hornets. The four squads will be among the teams mentioned in NBA rumors as Howard searches for what could be his final NBA team in his career.
Dwight Howard’s game has gone down since he left the Magic team years ago but Orlando now features a young core and his defense and rebounding could help the team as they target to improve on another disappointing performance this season.
Howard, who averages 13.7 points and 11.8 rebounds and 1.6 blocked shots this season, played for the Magic from 2004 to 2012 after becoming the first overall pick in the 2004 NBA Draft by Orlando. He has been with the Rockets from 2013 to 2016 but has not found a major role on the offense due to the presence of Harden, who is seen as the franchise player for the team.
Dwight Howard returning to the Orlando Magic would be one of the major storylines and NBA rumors discussion in the upcoming NBA offseason which is seen as one of the most interesting summers in recent years.
