Dwight Howard is expected to opt out of his player option with the Houston Rockets and hit the free agency market this summer. The New York Knicks will be rebuilding their roster surrounding Carmelo Anthony. Sources reveal that Howard is interested to play in Knicks.
The Knicks in their bid to build a roster capable of leading them back to the playoffs in 2016-17 season are interested in all the star free agents. The list includes four time All-star Al Horford, Miami Heat star Hassan Whiteside and point guard Mike Conley.
According to Ian Begley of ESPN New York, Dwight Howard is one of the big name free agents who is actually interested to land in Knicks.
“Some of Howard’s friends have let it be known recently that the center would be interested in coming to New York as a free agent if he opts out of his current contract, league sources say.”
And the Knicks are also interested in Howard as Phil Jackson and company are eyeing a playoff berth next season. Howard has a tremendous streak of nine consecutive postseason appearances. The 30-year-old has featured in NBA finals once and thrice played in the Conference final in his 12 year career. And Howard is three-time NBA defensive player of the year.
Despite having an ordinary last season at Houston, Dwight Howard managed to rank No. 2 in the NBA in field goal percentage and No. 4 in rebounding.
He is still the man the New York Knicks are looking for to stage a comeback next season.
