Dwyane Wade and LeBron James are known being close friends off the court and teamed up already with the Miami Heat in previous years. With Wade having trouble getting a contract in Miami, according to NBA rumors, can it be possible for a Wade-James reunion with the Cleveland Cavaliers?
Brian Windhorst of ESPN stated that initial discussions between Heat and Wade “have not produced a common ground” and that this could lead to Wade entertaining other rival teams in 2016 free agency.
If Miami and Wade can’t agree to a deal, this could mean the end of the veteran guard’s stint with the Heat, Wade’s team since being drafted by the team as the fifth overall pick in the 2003 NBA Draft.
The Heat have salary cap space this summer but they also have other free agents to take care of. The top priority, as per team president Pat Riley mentioned earlier in the offseason, is center Hassan Whiteside, who will demand the maximum salary of about $22 million.
Whiteside has also been involved in many NBA rumors linking him to various teams like the Los Angeles Lakers, Dallas Mavericks and New York Knicks. The Heat have no choice but to deal with Whiteside first and then try to re-sign other free agents like Wade and Luol Deng.
Could this open the door of a possible reunion between Wade and LeBron James, who is expected to re-sign with the Cavaliers this summer?
Wade and LeBron won two titles with the Heat, in 2012 and 2013. LeBron left Miami in 2014 to re-join the Cavaliers.
Cleveland has one of the highest total team salaries in the league so Dwyane Wade joining the Cavaliers won’t happen unless Wade takes a pay cut. Will the Heat star consider getting a lower salary next season and join LeBron in Cleveland and make the NBA rumors Wade-LeBron reunion a reality?
