Frank Vogel was fired by the Indiana Pacers and Scott Skiles left the Orlando Magic earlier this month. On Friday, Vogel is reportedly being linked to the Magic, according to the latest NBA rumors.
The Magic is said to plan contacting the former Pacers coach about being their head coach, according to Orlando’s general manager Rob Hennigan via The Orlando Sentinel.
The report says that it’s not clear if Vogel has any interest in the head coaching job at Orlando but the mentor is also being linked to the Memphis Grizzlies, who let go of Dave Joerger recently, and the New York Knicks and Houston Rockets, according to NBA rumors.
“Sort of the fulcrum of what we’re looking for is someone who puts an emphasis on the defensive end of the floor, someone who puts an emphasis on player development and also someone who puts an emphasis on building lasting connections with the players on our roster,” Hennigan said in the article and Vogel is a coach known to emphasize on his team’s defense as seen with his stint with the Pacers.
The 42-year-old Vogel was the head coach of the Pacers from 2011 to 2016 and he had 250 wins against 181 losses in his stint in Indiana. Vogel’s contract with the Pacers expired at the end of the current season and Indiana chose to move forward with a new head coach to give the team another direction and identity.
NBA rumors will continue to surround Frank Vogel, who is one of the top head coaches available this offseason, until he finds a new NBA team.
