Ray Allen has not played in the NBA since the 2013-14 season but he has not announced his retirement from basketball. According to the latest NBA rumors, the Golden State Warriors want to sign Allen to a one-year deal as they start completing their “superteam” roster.
The Warriors signing Kevin Durant makes them heavy favorites to win the 2017 NBA championship. However, Bob Myers needs to replenish his roster after the departures of players such as Harrison Barnes, Andrew Bogut, and Festus Ezeli.
Golden State has already signed two veteran players, Zaza Pachulia, and David West, to one-year deals. According to Rusty Simmons of the San Francisco Chronicle, the Warriors are interested in signing Ray Allen, who last played for the Miami Heat in 2014.
It should be noted that Allen has been very quiet about his future but he probably won’t make a decision very quickly. He is one of the hardest working players in the NBA and he has been in really great shape despite his age. He is turning 41 years old on July 20.
The prospect of seeing Allen, the greatest shooter of all-time, playing with Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson is something fans would like to see. It is like a passing of the torch moment, as you may know, Steph and Klay are on their way to break Allen’s record. And Curry eventually becoming the greatest shooter ever.
Some of the players that the Warriors also plan on pursuing this offseason to complete their “superteam” roster include Jermaine O’Neal, Kendrick Perkins, David Lee and Mario Chalmers. According to FOX Sports, Golden State could also bring back Leandro Barbosa and Anderson Varejao while also keeping an eye on Kevin Martin, Jason Terry, and Steve Blake.
