With the new NBA season almost one week away, there are still NBA rumors surrounding the Miami Heat and Philadelphia 76ers. In the reported deal, Heat point guard Goran Dragic will go to Philly in exchange for Sixers center Jahlil Okafor.
The Sixers are the team always mentioned in trade rumors because they had announced earlier in the offseason that they want a more “balanced roster” with loaded frontcourt that features Okafor, Nerlens Noel, Joel Embiid, Dario Saric and the injured Ben Simmons.
Simmons, the No. 1 pick in the 2016 NBA Draft could be out for the entire season but that’s not changing the tune in Philadelphia, which still needs guards or point guards so they can be competitive in the 2016-2017 NBA Season.
Getting Goran Dragic could be big for the young Sixers team. Even without Simmons, if Dragic is traded to Philadelphia, they’d be a more competitive team as the Slovenian point guard will provide leadership and stability in the backcourt.
Both Noel and Okafor are reportedly on the trading block. Teams like the Boston Celtics and Minnesota Timberwolves, which can also offer young prospects or wing players from their roster, are also reportedly interested in both.
However, no deal is done thus far, which means the Sixers are still looking for the best options in the trade market. A Noel or Okafor trade could happen before the trade deadline but they want to make sure the deal does not affect their long-term plans, with Simmons as the franchise player for the future.
