The Orlando Magic may have a frontcourt problem with Serge Ibaka, Bismack Biyombo and Nikola Vucevic vying for starting spots. According to the latest NBA rumors, the Magic may be inclined to trade Vucevic and the Charlotte Hornets could be the perfect partner.
The Magic took a chance by trading several assets for Serge Ibaka and splashed a lot of money for Biyombo. They already have Vucevic, who is a borderline All-Star center. Ibaka will surely start while Biyombo may be too expensive to come off the bench.
In an interview with SiriusXM NBA Radio, Vucevic expressed his desire to stay as a starting center in the NBA. He noted that he has proven it and he is not willing to come off the bench.
“I think that I have proven that I am definitely a starter in this league and I believe to be one of the best centers in the league. I don’t think there’s any reason for me to come off the bench,” Vucevic said.
According to Ryan Doyle of Orlando Magic Daily, these comments could create problems as the season goes on. He noted that Vucevic is the odd-man out among the Magic centers and Orlando may need to trade him in the future.
Joseph Falco Calamore of Swarm and Sting suggested a trade that will send Vucevic to the Hornets in exchange for Frank Kaminsky, Jeremy Lamb, Spencer Hawes and a 2018 first-round pick. It makes sense for Charlotte because they will have a pick-and-roll partner for Kemba Walker.
On the other hand, the Magic may not want Lamb because he will take away minutes from Mario Hezonja and Aaron Gordon. However, Kaminsky and Hawes are the perfect backups for Ibaka and Biyombo.
