Carmelo Anthony and the New York Knicks have one goal in the 2016-17 NBA season – bring home the Larry O’Brien Championship Trophy. The Knicks overhauled their roster this offseason and some people considered them now as a ‘Super Team’.

Knicks President Phil Jackson and general manager Steve Mills assured Carmelo Anthony that he will be surrounded by quality players next season. The 32-year-old small forward is currently focusing on winning his first NBA championship title.

Late June, the New York Knicks started to rebuild by trading Robin Lopez, Jose Calderon, and Jerian Grant for Chicago Bulls’ Derrick Rose, Justin Holiday, and a 2017 second-round pick. To replace Lopez as their starting center, the Knicks acquired Joakim Noah in the recent free agency.

The Knicks solidified their starting lineup when they added shooting guard Courtney Lee. Despite the major improvements, the Knicks are still questionable in contending for the 2017 NBA championship.

Though many people believe that Derrick Rose can bounce back next season, health is still a question for the former MVP.

“Last year he remained relatively healthy, playing in over 65 games for the first time since his MVP campaign in 2010-11. In fact, Rose has actually played in more games over the last two seasons (117) than both Anthony (112) and Noah (96). Nonetheless, expecting him to stay healthy in 2016-17 may not be a prudent gamble. The reality is Rose has missed a total of 162 games since 2011.” Tommy Beer of Basketball Insider reported.

In the worst case scenario for Derrick Rose, Brandon Jennings could start in his place. The same with Rose, Jennings suffered injury last season that limited him to 48 games. So far, there are only a few athletes who made a 100% recovery from Achilles tear.

Having both injury-prone PGs can be a serious problem for the New York Knicks next season. In the paper, the Knicks’ current roster has the chance to compete against the Cleveland Cavaliers and contend for the 2017 NBA championship title.

The Knicks’ projected starting lineup will be:

C- Joakim Noah, PF- Kristaps Porzingis, SF- Carmelo Anthony, SG- Courtney Lee, PG- Derrick Rose

The New York Knicks are one of the NBA teams that will surely be exciting to watch next season. If all their players remain healthy throughout the season, there is a higher possibility that they can beat any team that will encounter.
