Rumors and speculations are now swirling around the Chicago Bulls who are reportedly considering free agents Mike Conley and Jeremy Lin to replace Derrick Rose as their starting point guard next season.
The trade rumors about Derrick Rose continue to surface in recent weeks. The Chicago Bulls only finished in the 9th spot in the Eastern Conference with a record of 42-40 last season and Chicago is expected to go through a rebuilding process.
Despite the struggles that Rose faced, the loyal Bulls’ fans still believes in him and wants him to stay with the team. According to Brandon Pence of Bulls Zone, there are loyal Bulls’ fans who believed that Derrick Rose should still be the main focus of the team instead of Jimmy Butler.
However, the Bulls management might be feeling the opposite. According to Joe Cowley of Chicago Sun-Times, Chicago Bulls’ president of basketball operations John Paxson and general manager Gar Forman will be looking for a quality point guard in the 2016 NBA Draft. Not only because Derrick Rose will be entering his final year before his contract expires, but also because they might think that Rose does not fit head coach Fred Hoiberg’s system.
Steve Kyler of Basketball Insider reported that the Chicago Bulls are actively open to trading Derrick Rose rather than shopping Jimmy Butler. Since Joakim Noah and Pau Gasol are reportedly leaving the Bulls this summer, another NBA team could offer Rose for a starting center. One of the recent rumors is the Nerlens Noel-Derrick Rose trade.
If the Bulls will be moving Rose, they should consider looking for a starting point guard as his replacement. The 2016 NBA draft have limited quality point guards so they should consider other options. Mike Conley and Jeremy Lin are said to be the top targets of the Chicago Bulls in free agency and both could be good fit with Hoiberg’s system.
Also, both are capable pass-first point guards so Jimmy Butler can still be the team’s main focus on the offensive end. However, once the free agency hits, there will be lots of suitors for Conley and Lin since they are many teams who are eyeing to acquire a quality point guard in free agency. But first, the Bulls should consider if they are really willing to move on from Derrick Rose.
