The Brooklyn Nets have officially found a backup point guard for newly-crowned starter Jeremy Lin. According to the latest NBA rumors, the Nets have agreed to a one-year deal with Greivis Vasquez, who played for the Milwaukee Bucks last season.

Head coach Kenny Atkinson made it clear that Lin will be the Nets’ starting point guard next season. He also insisted that the 27-year-old is going to be the team’s leader on the floor and partner with Brook Lopez in the pick-and-roll.

Jeremy Lin and the Nets lost two restricted free agent guards, Tyler Johnson and Allen Crabbe, in the past couple of days. However, general manager Sean Marks was quick to find an additional player to join Lin and rookie Isaiah Whitehead in the team’s backcourt.

According to Yahoo! Sports, the Nets and Greivis Vasquez have agreed to a one-year deal. The 29-year-old is a big point guard, but he is mostly known for being a versatile combo guard. He played with the Bucks last season but it was cut short because of an ankle injury.

“I was excited when Sean (Marks) brought me that name; I said that’s a good one. We’ve got to help him recover from the injury last year. But that’s why you have a good team: We’re going to help him,” Atkinson told the New York Post.

Vasquez was a first-round draft pick by the Memphis Grizzlies in 2010 but he has also played with teams such as the New Orleans Pelicans, Sacramento Kings, and Toronto Raptors. He has solid career averages of 9.0 points, 2.6 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game.

On the other hand, the Nets are not done signing free agents this offseason. NBA rumors also suggest that they are interested in signing Dion Waiters to a contract. However, Waiters is a restricted free agent and the Oklahoma City Thunder have the right to match any offers.
