Both forwards Jimmy Butler and Carmelo Anthony are in the NBA rumors involving probable trades to various NBA squads but it now appears they are staying with with their respective squads, the Chicago Bulls and New York Knicks, in this offseason.
New reports are in this week that the Bulls and Knicks are serious in their intention to make Butler and Anthony part of their respective rosters next season and make them part of the members of the core of both squads, which are trying to return to the NBA Playoffs next season.
According to the Chicago Tribune, the Bulls have tasked Butler to be the representative of the team in the upcoming NBA Draft lottery on May 17.
With such a move, the Bulls management are hoping that they are sending a message to the Bulls fans that Butler is the franchise player of the team and shouldn’t believe in the NBA rumors as they hope to get lucky in the upcoming rookie draft set in June. The Bulls have a 0.5% chance to get the top pick and 1.8% chance to get into the Top 3.
Meanwhile, in an interview with Newsday, Carmelo Anthony stated that he is not waiving his no-trade clause and will stay with the Knicks next season.
“You’ll see me here,” Anthony said. “For the Knicks, absolutely.”
Both the Bulls and Knicks forwards have been involved in a lot of NBA rumors since both of their teams got eliminated for the postseason. Butler’s name has been linked to the Los Angeles Lakers and even Chicago’s East rivals, Boston Celtics. Anthony’s name has also been linked to a number of teams including the Bulls, Houston Rockets and other squads that needs a veteran star.
