After the blockbuster trade for Derrick Rose, the New York Knicks are reportedly interested in signing Chicago Bulls center Joakim Noah in the upcoming free agency which officially starts July 1.

The New York Knicks successfully acquire Derrick Rose together with Justin Holiday and a 2017 second-round pick by sending center Robin Lopez, point guards Jose Calderon and Jeriah Grant to the Chicago Bulls.

Though the Knicks filled the position for the starting point guard, they are now in need of a starting center after losing Robin Lopez. According to Ian Begley of ESPN New York, the Knicks are interested in acquiring one of Rose’s most noteworthy teammates to replace Lopez: Joakim Noah.

“With Derrick Rose on board, some in the Knicks organization want to make a run at Bulls center – and soon to be free agent – Joakim Noah, sources say. Noah is close with Rose and has a good relationship with Knicks star Carmelo Anthony. He also grew up in New York,” Begley wrote.

“The Knicks sent center Robin Lopez to Chicago in the Rose deal and are in need of a big man. They will have at least $30 million to spend in free agency this summer. Another name to keep in mind is Dwight Howard. Sources say Howard would consider signing with the Knicks. It is unclear at this point if the Knicks are interested in Howard. Signing Howard to a max deal would eat up most of New York’s cap space. It is unclear what kind of offer Noah is looking for. Other outlets have reported that the Knicks are interested in Noah. The trade for Rose on Wednesday only bolstered that interest for some in the organization.”

Joakim Noah expressed his disappointment after Chicago Bulls’ head coach Fred Hoiberg removed him from the starting lineup. Noah may have suffered multiple injuries in the past seasons but he has proven to be one of the most serviceable centers in the league when he is healthy.

Joakim Noah can greatly help the Knicks, especially on the defensive end. Noah won the 2014 Defensive Player of the Year award and he has been selected to three All-Defensive Teams. If the Knicks succeed in acquiring him, there is a great possibility that they will be on the list of teams who can be a title contender next season, provided that Noah and Rose are healthy all the way.
