The Philadelphia 76ers are rumored to trade one of their big men, Jahlil Okafor, Nerlens Noel, and Joel Embiid to address some key position they need to improve. Sixers GM Bryan Colangelo is reportedly not comfortable starting their season with too many centers on their roster.
Joel Embiid was drafted as the third overall pick by the Philadelphia 76ers in the 2014 NBA draft. However, he was ruled unlikely to play for the 2014-15 NBA season due to broken navicular bone in his right foot. Embiid was still unable to show up in the 2015-16 NBA season after he suffered a setback in his recovery after a CT scan revealed less healing than anticipated.
The Philadelphia 76ers have long been eyeing for the return of Joel Embiid to play for their team. Now that he is officially joining the Sixers’ roster, there is a higher possibility that he will be included in the starting lineup either center or power forward position.
Before he was drafted in 2014, Sixers fans have been eyeing him as the perfect tandem for Nerlens Noel. However, with the presence of Jahlil Okafor, the arrival of Joel Embiid made the Sixers’ frontcourt crowded. The Sixers should trade at least one of their big man in order to address other positions they currently need to improve.
“But I think, right now, again, it’s best to say we like all of them. We want to see if we can make the most out of each of them in terms of their contributions to this team. But at the end of the day, the reality says probably one has to go at some point — but only when the deal is right.” Bryan Colangelo said.
Bret Stuter of The Sixers Sense gave his insight on why the Philadelphia 76ers should prioritize Joel Embiid than the two other big men:
“Of the three centers: Joel Embiid, Jahlil Okafor, and Nerlens Noel, Joel Embiid is considered the most athletic of the three. Of the three centers, Joel Embiid is the most “raw”. Of the three centers, Joel Embiid is the player projected to have the greatest upside. And finally, of the three centers, Joel Embiid is rumored to have the easiest time of learning new moves – some claim he can assimilate new basketball moves simply by watching a historic elite player perform on a videotape.”
With how the Sixers’ see Joel Embiid, it is very likely that either Jahlil Okafor or Nerlens Noel will be traded soon. Embiid will have the potential to be a superstar in the future. With the way he plays, he could be a Dwight Howard in the making.
