Kawhi Leonard is the franchise player for the San Antonio Spurs. Latest rumors and speculations suggest that he can be the best player in the whole league next season.
Along with star forward LaMarcus Aldridge, Leonard makes the Spurs one of the powerhouse teams in the 2016-2017 NBA Season. But is Leonard good enough to be the NBA Most Valuable Player (MVP) next year?
Cody Taylor of the Basketball Insiders claims that the Golden State Warriors’ Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, Cleveland Cavaliers’ Russell Westbrook and New Orleans Pelicans’ Anthony Davis are among the top five favorites to win the MVP award in the new NBA season.
But he also added that there are “dark horse” candidates for the MVP crown and one of them is Leonard, who is expected to get more role on offense with the departure of Tim Duncan to retirement.
“In only five seasons, Leonard has already accomplished so much. He was named the Finals MVP two years ago. He was an All-Star last season, and he is coming off of back-to-back Defensive Player of the Year awards,” Taylor said of Leonard, who averaged 21.2 points, 6.8 rebounds, 1.8 steals and 1.0 blocks last season for the Spurs.
Leonard is known as one of the most versatile players in the league being able to play both offense and defense.
Others that has a chance to steal the MVP title are Paul George (Indiana Pacers), Damian Lillard (Portland Trail Blazers), Isaiah Thomas (Boston Celtics), Jimmy Butler (Chicago Bulls), John Wall (Washington Wizards) and Kyrie Irving (Cavaliers).
Can Spurs leader Leonard become an NBA superstar next season and win his first NBA MVP title? Will Kawhi Leonard be better than LeBron James, Kevin Durant or Stephen Curry?
