The Boston Celtics has been linked with many players this offseason as they try to increase their chances of becoming legitimate title contenders. The latest NBA rumors suggest a three-team deal that involves the Celtics, Toronto Raptors and Denver Nuggets.
A website called NBA-Trade-Rumors.com claims that the Celtics will be receiving center Jusuf Nurkic from the Nuggets in the three-team trade. Boston then sends Kelly Olynyk and R.J. Hunter to Toronto while Demetrious Jackson and two 2018 draft picks go to Denver.
Finally, the Raptors will trade rookie center Jakob Poeltl to the Nuggets. All in all, the Celtics give up five assets for Nurkic, the Raptors get two good role players for their 2016 first round pick while the Nuggets instantly gets a good replacement for their Bosnia big man.
According to the ESPN Trade Machine, the deal is not possible because the salaries do not much. Also, the Celtics are much smarter than that. Danny Ainge will not let go of valuable assets like the 2018 pick from the Nets if not for a superstar.
Jusuf Nurkic is not a superstar but he has the potential to be an All-Star. However, the Celtics are not looking for players to develop since they are on the cusp of becoming a title contender. They only have the Cleveland Cavaliers and Toronto Raptors to beat in the Eastern Conference.
On the other hand, it makes sense for the Raptors to get a player like Kelly Olynyk, who is a big man that can stretch the floor. NBA rumors in Denver imply that the Nuggets are already set with a Jusuf Nurkic-Nikola Jokic tandem.
Nevertheless, it should be noted that these are just NBA rumors at the moment and nothing has been confirmed. If ever the Celtics make a trade, it will be for a superstar like DeMarcus Cousins, Jimmy Butler or even Anthony Davis.
