The Toronto Raptors are near to complete their roster for the 2016-17 NBA season. According to the latest NBA rumors, the Raptors are interested in acquiring Kenneth Faried from the Denver Nuggets to bolster their frontcourt.
The Toronto Raptors have made a huge step last season when they managed to enter the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time in franchise history. DeMar DeRozan and Kyle Lowry, who served as their scoring leaders, led the Raptors against the best teams in the East before falling short against the Cleveland Cavaliers.
With the hope of replicating their success, the Raptors re-signed DeMar DeRozan to a five-year deal worth $145 million. The 27-year-old shooting guard is set to lead the Raptors in the succeeding years. However, contending for the title is expected to be tougher next season as most teams managed to improve their rosters.
In the past months, the Raptors were linked to various trade rumors typically pointing out the need for a power forward in Toronto. Names of Paul Millsap, Serge Ibaka, and Kenneth Faried emerged as the Raptors’ rumored trade target.
Of all the three, it seems likely that Kenneth Faried is the only available power forward. Brandon Carney of Hoops Habit suggested for the Denver Nuggets to trade Faried before the start of the 2016-17 NBA season. Faried is a one-dimensional player which is not good to the Nuggets’ young roster.
There were rumors that the Nuggets want to trade Kenneth Faried in exchange for a wing man. In this case, the Raptors could explore a potential trade package centered on Terrence Ross. The Raptors are currently in need of a powerful rebounder who can work together with center Jonas Valanciunas.
Acquiring a player like Kenneth Faried will give them the more chance to win against the best teams in the Eastern Conference. With the nearing start of the training camp, expect more trade rumors surrounding NBA teams to circulate until the deadline.
