Kevin Durant will reportedly meet with six teams, including the Oklahoma City Thunder, when free agency starts on July 1. According to the latest NBA rumors, Durant and his representatives are considering adding the New York Knicks in the mix.
Sam Amick of USA Today Sports reported on Saturday that the Boston Celtics, Los Angeles Clippers, Miami Heat, San Antonio Spurs and Golden State Warriors are joining Oklahoma City as the teams Durant will consider signing with this summer.
The Knicks were also mentioned as a possibility because of the Derrick Rose trade last week. Now, Durant confirmed in an interview with the New York Post that the Knicks are indeed on his radar due to the trio of Rose, Carmelo Anthony, and Kristaps Porzingis.
“I don’t know (if I’ll meet with the Knicks). I’ll see after we leave here. I have to talk to my people and figure that stuff out. It is three days away and we will see what happens. That is all I can say at this point,” Durant said.
“They obviously have a good team now with D-Rose, Melo, and Porzingis. Like I said, I’m going to talk to my team and we’ll figure things out. But right now, it’s kind of hard to say,” he added.
The 27-year-old also mentioned that he is good friends with Anthony and he looks up to him as a big brother. He also called Rose a great player and said that he is excited to see what the former MVP can do in New York.
Nonetheless, the Thunder are still the favorite to re-sign Durant this offseason with the Warriors and Spurs not far behind. The 2014 MVP will be entering his prime but he would want to win an NBA championship now.
