Kevin Durant is the top free agent that most NBA teams are currently targeting in free agency. The 27-year-old small forward did not give any hints regarding his destination but is expected to sign with a battle-tested team.
According to ESPN, Kevin Durant is expected to host free agency meetings with six NBA teams. These include the Oklahoma City Thunder, Boston Celtics, Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Clippers, San Antonio Spurs and Miami Heat. Among the teams, the Celtics and the Thunder are reportedly the leading candidates to acquire Durant.
There were previous reports saying that Kevin Durant would like to team up with the Atlanta Hawks center Al Horford, who is also set to become an unrestricted free agent.
If the salary cap space will be the basis, the Boston Celtics is the only team who can sign both Al Horford and Kevin Durant at the same time. The others will need to release multiple players in order to create a room for the two superstars.
According to Kevin O’Connor of SB Nation:
“What we already knew before Windhorst’s report is, well, simply the fact Durant is meeting with five other teams (the Warriors, Clippers, Spurs, Celtics, and Heat). If the Thunder were such a certainty, he wouldn’t go through all of this. Durant isn’t the type of guy who’d do it just for the attention.”
“There are so many variables that are impossible for us to understand like Russell Westbrook’s plans for 2017 free agency, Durant’s willingness to go through the process again, and simply his own personal feelings of the people he’s around in the organization. And how much does Durant really want to play with Horford? The Celtics are the only team on Durant’s list (for now) that can easily sign both him and Horford.”
“However Durant answers these questions ultimately will lead to the decision he makes. But, we don’t have access to that information. No one does.”
Kevin Durant is one of the players who showed a lot of respect to the Boston Celtics. He is amazed at the support that the team gets every game.
“You can feel the tradition walking in here,” Durant told ESPN. “You see all the guys plastered on the walls as you walk into the locker room. The tradition of being a Boston Celtic is second to none. So, it’s amazing playing here. The fans, they’re very energetic and they cheer for their team. It’s amazing to see as a player to have fans that care about the game so much. It’s an amazing sports town and they have a great team to cheer for.”
The Boston Celtics’ decision to pick Jaylen Brown as third overall could have a conflict with Kevin Durant. This may lead them to trade him together with Jae Crowder for another superstar in the league. The Celtics should also make a strategy on how to sign Al Horford with their team. If they succeed, their chance of landing Kevin Durant will surely get high.
