Rumors and speculations are now swirling around the Golden State Warriors who reportedly targeting Kevin Durant in the upcoming free agency on July 1.
The Golden State Warriors suffered a saddening Game 7 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers that cost them their second consecutive NBA championship title. The Warriors have realized that they still have something to improve and that will be the center and small forward position. The availability of Kevin Durant as an unrestricted free agent could force them to free Harrison Barnes.
Harrison Barnes is one of the intriguing prospects in the upcoming free agency. In the middle of the postseason, the Warriors management expressed their intention to re-sign him but said that they will let him go if he wants to play for another team. There are speculations that Luke Walton will be bringing Harrison Barnes and Festus Ezeli in the Los Angeles Lakers.
The NBA Finals shows the weaknesses of the Golden State Warriors. Hannah Kulik of Lakers Nation gave reasons on why the Lakers should be wary of Harrison Barnes. The Warriors’ small forward was indeed a big help in their Game three and four wins. However, he seemed to be inconsistent in Game five and six.
The Golden State Warriors are reportedly targeting Kevin Durant in free agency. Frank Isola of New York Daily News reported that if Durant will not re-sign with the Oklahoma City Thunder, Warriors will be his preferred destination.
“The same source maintains that if Durant doesn’t re-sign with the Oklahoma City Thunder he would prefer to join the Warriors, a team that has reached two straight NBA Finals and could rule the Western Conference for the next five years if Durant goes to the Bay Area.” Isola wrote.
Kevin Durant has attracted lots of NBA teams who dreamed of becoming a title contender next season. However, Durant will prefer a team who can give him a championship title than a team who is currently undergoing a rebuilding process.
“I’m worried about basketball,” Durant told reporters in Austin, Tex., during the release of his new sneaker line on Monday. “That’s what it is for me. It’s a basketball decision. I’m looking forward to the future.”
If the Golden State Warriors will succeed to sign Durant, they will surely become a tougher team next season. If he works well with Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green, the Warriors can easily take their revenge and be an NBA champion again.
