Thunder’s general manager Sam Presti is confident about Kevin Durant re-signing with the Oklahoma City Thunder this summer, burying all the rumors about the All-Star’s impending free agency move.
Kevin Durant is set to become a free agent this offseason for the first time in his career. And he was strongly linked with the Golden State Warriors by some experts. Durant alongside Russell Westbrook led the Thunder to the Western Conference finals this season, and lost the series to the Warriors blowing an advantageous 3-1 lead. Presti also credited the 27-year-old All-Star for not allowing any distractions for the team regarding his expiring contract.
“We have the opportunity to sit down with him and talk about what looks like an incredibly bright future together,” Presti said Monday, according to the Real GM. “I think you have to embrace that. You have to really lean into that in an excited way without knowing what the outcome might be. But I don’t see any reason to shy away from that.”
Washington born Durant has revealed several times that he wants to win the league at this stage of his career. The Thunder appeared in the 2012 NBA Finals. Presti also hopes that Durant will make a final call quickly which will help Thunder to take the other roster decisions.
“Look, Kevin is a highly, highly intelligent person. He’s a mature person. He’s a rational person, and he’s going to work through the decision in a way that will help him do what he feels is best for him. We’ll react accordingly once we have that information, and we’ll try to be as prepared as possible.” Presti also added.
