DeMarcus Cousins of the Sacramento King has been linked with a lot of NBA rumors for the past several months but no trade ever came close to happening. However, one NBA analyst thinks that the time to trade “Boogie” is right now.

According to Shaun Powell of, the Kings are going to lose leverage the longer they hold on to Cousins. He noted that teams will not trade a lot of assets for a one-year rental while Sacramento risks losing their best player for free in two years.

“The longer they wait, the more leverage they’ll lose because few teams will be willing to rent Cousins for a year and surrender assets in return. Then, the Kings will be at the mercy of Cousins and whether he’ll want to stay or move on,” Powell reported.

NBA rumors in Sacramento imply that DeMarcus Cousins has not demanded a trade. He loves the city but it’s only a matter of time for him to become unhappy. The Kings franchise has been very tumultuous and they did not even try to make the team better this season.

Even though they signed a new head in Dave Joerger, the Kings did not make an effort to retain Rajon Rondo. They also failed to trade away Rudy Gay and Ben McLemore for better-suited players like Ricky Rubio and future assets.

It will be a tough season for Cousins and the Kings since teams in the Western Conference got even better. In his six seasons in the NBA, the two-time All-Star center has not made the playoffs and he has had six different head coaches.

Nevertheless, these are just NBA rumors at the moment and nothing has been confirmed. Training camp is just a couple of weeks away and if any trades will be made, it may possibly come at the deadline especially if the Kings have a terrible start to the season.
