The Sacramento Kings are not yet done with rumored trade talks for Minnesota Timberwolves’ Ricky Rubio as the Kings have earned quite an interest in him.
Rumors of Rubio being traded by the Timberwolves grew stronger even before the start of the 2016 Rio Olympics in Brazil. Rubio is seeing action for Spain alongside Pau Gasol. Though Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor has said over and over that there is no plan to ship the Spanish point guard, Darren Wolfson of ESPN 1500 believes that the Kings is the team to watch before the trading deadline as they are highly rated to snag Rubio.
“As Glen Taylor said on this podcast a couple episodes ago, Ricky Rubio will start the season with the Wolves,” Wolfson said. “But I can tell you, as I’ve said a number of times, the Sacramento Kings are a team to watch. Vlade Divac, George Karl, now George Karl into Dave Joerger. Keep an eye on the Sacramento Kings if slash when the Wolves decide to make a move on Ricky. But, again, nothing is imminent. Ricky Rubio will be with the Wolves opening night.”
But for the trade to happen the Kings must be able to put some good assets in return to compensate the Timberwolves as well. The names of Rudy Gay and DeMarcus Cousins have been in the constant headliner for a trade by the Kings and surely they would want to explore such options too.
Talking about Rudy Gay, the Kings send a message to the Houston Rockets – he won’t come cheap. The Rockets have shown strong interest in getting Gay but they have to sacrifice lots of assets for the trade to commensurate. The Rockets may have to bring in Trevor Ariza and Corey Brewer to get a salary match for the trade to happen.

However, the Rockets are still contemplating if risking those assets would be sufficient enough to acquire the services of Gay. These are just some of the things that they are taking into consideration which is why the trade had not officially taken place yet.
The Kings have been an active player in the trading headlines and it will be exciting to see if they will be able to land Rubio before the season starts and will they be able to come to terms with the Rockets in dealing with Gay.
